Wilton Utd “B” 2 Donoughmore Athletic FC 1
Donoughmore bowed out of the Corinthians Cup at the
Lee Road on Sunday morning last in what was a disappointing game. Donoughmore were missing their influencial captain Connie Buckley for the second game running and were also without Damien Hennessy and Peter Murphy. The game itself never really caught fire and the first half was a scrappy affair with few chances created. Donoughmore did take the lead in the 30th minute when Jamie Lewis pounced to score his fifth goal in four matches when he lobbed the Wilton keeper from all of thirty yards. Donoughmore didn’t hold on to the lead for long and some brutal defending from a straight forward set piece gave Wilton the equaliser two minutes later. The second half wasn’t much better than the first but Donoughmore took the game more to Wilton in the first 20 minutes and although they created some half chances they failed to trouble the Wilton keeper unduly. Wilton got the winner in the 80th minute when Evan Forde made a good save from one Wilton Striker only for the second striker to react fastest to the loose ball to finish easily. Donoughmore did make all of the running in the final ten minutes and Pat Foley had a good chance from 15 yards to equalise but his snatch shot went wide. Cathal O’Hanlon, Tom Daly and Sean O’Mahoney did best for Donoughmore in what can only be described as a poor performance. Donoughmore now have only the league to worry about and next up is Buttevant at home in Stuake on Thursday evening next.
