Result AOH Cup First Round 11/02/2009
Donoughmore Athletic 0 Ballinhassig 1 (After Extra-Time) Donoughmore were defeated in the first round of the AOH Cup by Third Division Ballinhassig in Stuake on Saturday last. Donoughmore started well and played some good football in the first 20 minutes with Aidan O’Shea, Jonathan Hennessy and Conor Kelleher getting into some good positions but Donoughmore’s finishing was off target. The teams went in at half-time at 0-0 and the second half was dominated by Donoughmore for large periods but the final pass always seemed to be missing. Donoughmore enjoyed the majority of the possession in the second half but Ballinhassig continued to defend resolutely. The game went into extra time scoreless and seemed destined for penalties when Ballinhassig scored the winner on a rare breakaway right at the end of the first period of extra time. Some poor Donoughmore defending allowed a cross to come in deep to the far post and despite having adequate numbers Donoughmore failed to clear and the ball was finished to the net from 8 yards. Donoughmore still had time to rescue the game but despite creating one or two more chances could not get the equaliser. Conor Kelleher had an excellent game with Rob O’Sullivan and Ken Cullinane also doing well. Donoughmore need to improve big time next week when they are away to Fairview on Saturday afternoon in the league. Team: N. O'Connell, P. Foley, C. Buckley, C. O’Hanlon, R. O'Sullivan, C.
