Donoughmore Athletic 1 Springfield 2
Springfield scored a deserved victory over Donoughmore in the Munster Junior Cup
in Stuake on Saturday last. Donoughmore started well and created some good opportunities early on before taking the lead in the 15th minute. Aidan O’Shea chased a long kick-out from Noel O’Connell before he unleashed a great volley from 15 yards low into the bottom corner of the net. Sprinfield had the majority of the possession for the rest of the first half and brought out some excellent saves from Noel O’Connell in goal. Donoughmore looked very rusty from having played only two games in the previous six weeks and this was a telling factor. The score remained 1-0 at half-time but Springfield grabbed the equaliser within 30 seconds of the restart. The goal came about from some very poor defending by Donoughmore in their penalty area which lead to an easy finish from a couple of yards out. Springfield continued to have the upper hand and scored what proved to be the winner in the 65th minute again from close range. Donoughmore came more into the game in the last twenty minutes but failed to really trouble Springfield in the last third and the game seemed to peter out after that. Noel O’Connell, Tom Daly and Aidan O’Shea did well for Donoughmore.
