Donoughmore Athletic 0 Kinsale 4 Donoughmore suffered their first defeat of the season at home to premier division Kinsale in the FAI Junior Cup on Saturday last. Kinsale had a whirlwind start and were 2-0 ahead within 15 minutes of the start. Two similar lapses of concentration cost Donoughmore dearly for the two goals where poor marking was punished by the Kinsale attack. Kinsale kept a very high tempo for the first 30 minutes and kept Donoughmore under constant pressure, however Donoughmore eventually found their feet and hit a purple patch for the 20 minutes before half-time. Tom Daly got his head to an inswinging Pat Foley corner but failed to keep his effort on target. A couple of good passing moves eventually led to Aidan O'Shea forcing a brilliant save from the Kinsale keeper on the stroke of half-time when his low shot was well turned away. The score was 2-0 at half-time and at this stage Donoughmore were still in with a reasonable chance of a result. However Kinsale scored the vital third goal in the 50th minute when again poor marking was punished severely by an excellent header from 8 yards. To their credit Donoughmore kept a very good attitude throughout the game and really pushed Kinsale at every opportunity. Aidan O'Shea forced another excellent save from the keeper when his shot was turned on to the crossbar in the 75th minute. Donoughmore deserved a goal for their efforts and Darren Barrett, Conor Kelleher and Sean O'Mahony had good opportunites. Kinsale scored the fourth Goal in the 80th minute in a breakaway after some good Donoughmore pressure. Kinsale deserved to win this game but perhaps the 4-0 scoreline flattered them a little. Kinsale's higher grading was the telling factor against a Donoughmore side that never let their heads drop and matched Kinsale for effort and workrate.
