Donoughmore Athletic 0 Kinsale 4
Donoughmore suffered their first defeat of the season at home to premier division Kinsale in the FAI Junior Cup on Saturday last. Kinsale had a whirlwind start and were 2-0 ahead within 15 minutes of the start. Two similar lapses of concentration cost Donoughmore dearly for the two goals where poor marking was punished by the Kinsale attack.  Kinsale kept a very high tempo for the first 30 minutes and kept Donoughmore under constant pressure, however Donoughmore eventually found their feet and hit a purple patch for the 20 minutes before half-time. Tom Daly got his head to an inswinging Pat Foley corner but failed to keep his effort on target. A couple of good passing moves eventually led to Aidan O'Shea forcing a brilliant save from the Kinsale keeper on the stroke of half-time when his low shot was well turned away. The score was 2-0 at half-time and at this stage Donoughmore were still in with a reasonable chance of a result. However Kinsale scored the vital third goal in the 50th minute when again poor marking was punished severely by an excellent header from 8 yards. To their credit Donoughmore kept a very good attitude throughout the game and really pushed Kinsale at every opportunity. Aidan O'Shea forced another excellent save from the keeper when his shot was turned on to the crossbar in the 75th minute. Donoughmore deserved a goal for their efforts and Darren Barrett, Conor Kelleher and Sean O'Mahony had good opportunites. Kinsale scored the fourth Goal in the 80th minute in a breakaway after some good Donoughmore pressure. Kinsale deserved to win this game but perhaps the 4-0 scoreline flattered them a  little.  Kinsale's higher grading was the telling factor against a Donoughmore side that never let their heads drop and matched Kinsale for effort and workrate. Connie Buckley, Tom Daly and Aidan O'Shea played well for Donoughmore.

Buttevant 0 Donoughmore Athletic 0
Donoughmore kept their unbeaten start to their League 1A campaign with a scoreless draw away to Buttevant on Saturday. Donoughmore started the game strongly and Aidan O’Shea had a seemingly certain goal cleared off the line from a good deep Darren Barrett cross. Donoughmore had much of the play in the first half but despite one or two half chances didn’t trouble the Buttevant goal enough. The second half went much the same way as the first with Donoughmore dominating possession. Colm O’Sullivan was linking the play well during this half and Donoughmore created enough chances to have won the game. After some good work by Alan McSweeney , Pat Foley did well to beat his marker to the ball in the 70th minute but his well struck shot from just outside the box was too close to the keeper. Darren Barrett and Aidan O’Shea were combining well to cause the Buttevant defense problems and they both had  a couple of half chances. A positional switch saw Rob O’Sullivan moved up to midfield and he nearly scored the winner in the 80th minute when he beat one man in the box only to see his shot well saved. Donoughmore should have scored 5 minutes later when O’Shea put Dan McSweeney free only to see his shot go just wide of the far post. Donoughmore had another half chance when a corner was not properly cleared but there was nobody there to apply the finishing touch. This was a game that on another day Donoughmore would have won comfortably but it keeps the unbeaten run going and they are now unbeaten in their last six league matches. Rob O’Sullivan,

Connie Buckley, Colm O’Sullivan and Aidan O’Shea played well throughout. Donoughmore have a real test next Saturday when they welcome Kinsale to Stuake in the first round of the FAI Junior Cup in what promises to be an interesting encounter.

Donoughmore Athletic 2 Passage 1
Donoughmore secured a sometimes lucky win over Passage in Stuake on Saturday last. The pitch and conditions were in perfect order for a good game of soccer and Donoughmore came storming out of the blocks. Damien Hennessy was put through on goal in the 3rd minute but his shot was well saved by the Passage keeper. However  Hennessy made no mistake from the resultant corner when he finished into the top corner of the net when the ball broke his way. Donoughmore should have extended their lead in the first 20 minutes but could not put the finishing touches to some good opportunities. As the half wore on Passage came more into the match as Donoughmore seemed to take a step back. Donoughmore coped well from a series of corners and generally defended well but came under more and more pressure. That pressure paid off for Passage in the 37th minute when a deep run from their midfielder was not picked up by his marker and he had a free header from 8 yards out which gave Noel O'Connell in the Donoughmore goal no chance. That seemed to wake Donoughmore up and after a good passing move, Kenneth Cullinane scored what proved to be the winner with a superb goal from all of 35 yards that flew into the roof of the net. Donoughmore went in 2-1 at the break and just about deserved it at that stage. The second half was a dull affair with Donoughmore seemingly content to soak up the Passage pressure and hit them on the counter attack . Passage looked very dangerous all the time and were unlucky to have an equaliser ruled out for offside in the 75th minute. Colm O'Sullivan put Aidan O'Shea through on goal in the 80th minute but a bad bounce when he had only the keeper to beat meant the chance went begging. Brother's Rob & Colm O'Sullivan both played well with Peter Murphy, Connie Buckley and Cathal O'Hanlon also doing well. Donoughmore worked hard throughout but didn't play the fluid football that they played last week. The passing game that worked well against Rathcoole seemed to desert them and players often took the wrong option. However Donoughmore have full points from their first two games so they won't complain.
Team: N. O'Connell, C. O'Hanlon, C. Buckley, R. O'Sullivan, P. Murphy, P. Foley, D. Hennessy, C. O'Sullivan, D. McSweeney, A. O'Shea, K. Cullinane. Subs: D. Barrett for D. McSweeney, A. McSweeney for D. Hennessy and D. O'Shea for K. Cullinane.

Donoughmore Athletic 5 Rathcoole 1
Newly promoted Donoughmore got their season off to a great start with a 5-1 victory over an under strength Ratcoole in stuake on Saturday. Aidan O'Shea, back after a hamstring injury, scored a brilliant hat-trick with Kenneth Cullinane and Pat Foley also getting off the mark. Donoughmore started strongly and were rewarded with the lead on 10 minutes when O'Shea finished low to the bottom corner after some good build up work. Donoughmore played some good football in the first half and should have been two or three goals to the good after the half-hour when some excellent approach work was finished just off target or was saved by the Rathcoole keeper. Ken Cullinane doubled Donoughmore's advantage just before half-time when his header from a Pat Foley corner fell kindly for himself to finish to the top corner. Donoughmore were under pressure for a ten minute spell at the start of the second half but a defense excellently marshalled by Connie Buckley and Robert O'Sullivan coped well.  Aidan O'Shea made sure of the points in the 58th minute when he hit a wonderful volley low to the bottom corner from an Evan Forde long kick. O'Shea finished off his hat-trick 10 minutes later when he finished high to the net after hesitiaion in the Rathcoole defense. Pat Foley then finished the scoring for Donoughmore in the 80th minute when he robbed a Rathcoole defender on the edge of the penalty area before selling the keeper a dummy and walking the ball into the net. Donoughmore showed a high level of discipline and work-rate throughout and it would be unfair to single out individual players in what was an excellent team performance. Donoughmore have made a good start to their first season in the first division but this is going to be a long season where consistency and level of performance is going to be all important.
Team: E. Forde, C. O'Hanlon, C. Buckley, R. O'Sullivan, P. Murphy, D. McSweeney, D. Hennessy, C. O'Sullivan, P. Foley, K. Cullinane, A. O'Shea. Subs: D. Barrett for A. O'Shea, S. O'Mahoney for K. Cullinane and A. O'Brien for D. McSweeney.
